Types of Disability Benefits in Massachusetts

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)

SSDI is a federal program for individuals who have a qualifying work history and have paid into Social Security. If approved, you’ll receive:

• Monthly cash benefits based on your earnings history
• Medicare coverage starting 24 months after your benefit start date

To qualify, you must have a condition that prevents you from working and is expected to last at least 12 months or result in death.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
